Don’t Ignore Collection Letters!

Kevin Faulk Oct. 24, 2013

People frequently receive collection notices for paid off debts or for debts that belong to another person. You can’t ignore these notices. Once a creditor has put incorrect information into their database, it’s unlikely that they will cease their collection activity until you let them know that they’ve gotten it wrong.

If you’ve received a notice like this, you should take the time to check your credit report to see if the creditor is taking other steps to collect the debt.

Whether they have taken these other steps, or are simply sending you letters, there is a good chance that they have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you want to talk to someone about a possible claim under this Act, feel free to call anytime.
